INFO:
Residents in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing sought refuge in subway stations on Thursday as temperatures soared to 41.5 degrees Celsius, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for extreme heat. At the Hongyancun subway station, people gathered to escape the sweltering heat — chatting, napping, and playing cards in the cool, air-conditioned space. Tourists were also seen cooling off at fountains, under mist sprayers and beneath a canopy made of hundreds of decorated bamboo hats.
