A. Mohamed, U13 footballers & coach locked out of Wales Community Centre Ground The Wales Football team, along with their coach Kelvin Roberts, were locked out of the Wales Community Centre Ground earlier today after authorities reportedly learned that businessman Mr. A Mohamed was scheduled to deliver a donation of football gear to the team at the public facility. Mr. Mohamed, who was in the area, had been invited by the coach to meet the U13 players, who practice barefoot. Upon learning of the team's challenges, he generously offered to assist with some basic football equipment. The team, which practices at the facility daily, was shocked to find the gates padlocked with chains when they arrived on Friday, preventing access to the facility. When enquired, the coach was told by the security office that instructions were given by higher authorities not to open the facility during the afternoon session. According to the coach, this incident is highly unusual, noting that it is the first time anyone has been locked out of the facility that was built for the benefit the entire community. Despite this, Mr. Mohamed did not let the incident deter him and went ahead with his plans to meet the eager young footballers and more so, hand over his donation to them as their parents looked on in disappointment. It is striking that a coach would dedicate his time to engage the youths in a positive way, helping them stay out of trouble and away from crime, only to face an obstacle when a public facility was locked in an apparent effort to prevent Mr. Mohamed from entering. Team Mohamed’s remains committed to supporting the people of Guyana and more especially the youths and no matter the obstacles created to hinder their humanitarian efforts, they will continue to do so. We urge the authorities to stop using the future of our youth as a political pawn. Their potential is bright, and it should not be jeopardized for political reasons. DO NOT MIX POLITICS WITH YOUTH DEVELOPMENT!
